New Website for Portland!
Bell/Whittington Library has a new look! Director Adam Brooks decided is was time for a change! Check out the newly designed site powered by Joomla! at www.portlandtxlibrary.com. What do you think about the website? Cast your vote!
Joomla for Your Website
STLS has recently put the finishing touches on version one of the Joomla! Sandbox, a simulated web environment where you can play with Joomla!, a content management system used to build websites. In this case, we've configured all the software needed and built a sample "shell" of a library website. We're hoping the Sandbox will be helpful to a number of libraries in creating their first, or substantially revising their current, website.
The Early Bird Reader Program is a unique collaborative effort between
our community, schools, parents and students to insure all of our children have
the literacy skills required to successfully launch their school career.
We looked for a creative way to make sure more and more of South Texas
children come to school having hands-on experience with books and reading. Ours
is a peer-to-peer program, kids reading to kids.
Coastal Bend citizens are welcome to donate (recycle) any gently used baby
or children's books for use in the Early Bird Reader Program. We're looking for
books for ages 0-5, which means lots of colorful illustrations with 50 words or
less. We can also use older children's books for rewards for the readers. The book drive will be at KIII-TV studios at 5002 South Padre Island Drive
from 5:30 AM to 6:30 PM. See flyer.
If you would like to support the Early Bird Reader Project by hosting one of the bookerys in your library, please contact Gayle Gottlich,
